About

Christine Suzanne Getz, Dean of the School of Graduate Studies and Professor in the Conservatory, came to UMKC in July 2024 from the University of Iowa, where she was a Professor in the School of Music and serving her eighth year as the Associate Dean for Graduate Education in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. She brings a wealth of administrative experience in the arts and sciences that includes not only graduate and postdoctoral education, but also faculty development and collegiate oversight of outreach and community engagement. Dean Getz is the author of Music in the Collective Experience in Sixteenth-Century Milan (Ashgate 2005; reprinted Routledge 2016) and Mary, Music, and Meditation: Sacred Conversations in Post-Tridentine Milan (Indiana 2013), as well as journal articles, book chapters, and conference proceedings on music and culture in sixteenth and early seventeenth-century Milan. She further has edited a volume of sixteenth-century motets by Hermann Matthias Werrecore (A-R Editions 2008) and a volume of seventeenth-century sacred concerti by Andrea Cima (A-R Editions 2018).

Dean Getz is committed to helping expand the UMKC research and creative enterprise through its synergistic relationship with graduate and postdoctoral education. She continues to research and edit sacred music from Renaissance and early modern Milan in her spare time.
