Preparing Future Faculty (PFF) Scholar Fellowship

The Preparing Future Faculty Scholar Fellowship application is closed for 2024-25. There is not a paper application - the application goes through the regular UMKC application system (see link below).

The PFF program is a 12-credit, two-year online graduate certificate program in college teaching and career preparation. Fellowships for the PFF program are awarded each year to competitively selected new program applicants.

Award amount

  • PFF Fellows receive tuition remission for three credits and a stipend of $2,500.
  • The award may be renewable for the second year of the program provided recipients are making satisfactory progress in the program.

Eligibility

Only current or prospective graduate students who wish to participate in the PFF program are encouraged to apply for the PFF Fellowship.

Application requirements

  • Signed letter of recommendation from a faculty mentor that comments on the applicant’s suitability for the program
  • Signed one-page letter stating goals for program participation and educational history
  • Completed program application
    • If you are new to the online application system, you may first need to create an account. Once you access the application, select “College Teaching and Career Preparation” from the drop-down menu.

Note: You can still apply for the certificate program without receiving the fellowship - the program application is due by the end of July for a Fall start. Without the fellowship, the program costs are the same as normal tuition and fees for the 6 seminar courses and two 3-hour electives.

External Fellowships

We encourage you to also apply to non-university fellowships. A good starting point is contacting McLain Hymer in Career Services. As the Manager of Nationally Competitive Awards, she helps students identify and apply for prestigious external scholarships and fellowships. These awards can help students fund graduate study, research, and various work and study abroad experiences. Students of all backgrounds, interests, and goals are encouraged to consider these awards, and McLain hopes to provide a positive and developmental application process that will benefit students whether they are chosen as winners or not. You can find that website here, and you can contact her at mhymer@umkc.edu or (816) 235-1837. You can also schedule a meeting via Handshake.
